Louise Shaw, Wilson Elementary School teacher, thanked the Technology Department for resolving her WiFi issues that she spoke about at the last Board meeting, noting that her students can now log on without too much difficulty. She reiterated her comments on becoming an "on purpose" District, by making a list of priorities with regards to all the new things happening in the District such as Learning Odyssey, report cards, common core standards, chrome books, testing, Innovators, etc. noting "that what looks good on paper, doesn't always look good in the classroom." She is looking forward to hearing about the District focus and how individual sites can provide input to benefit our students.
Elena Lamas, a McKinley School Parent and PTO member, with the aid of a translator, addressed the Board regarding hiring a permanent PE teacher at McKinley, adding that continued substitutes create an unstable situation and a disadvantage to the students. She urged the Board to consider her request.
Sabra Schnur, McKinley Elementary School PTO President, addressed the Board regarding the District and McKinley school demographics, and the imbalance of McKinley Elementary School parent representation in the District. She also spoke about the need to afford the same equitable opportunity for our English speaking students to learn a second language during school as our English Learning counterparts. She would like to see the District consider implementing Spanish-speaking classes for English-speakers.

| Adopt Resolution No. 15-06 Proclaiming February 2015 as Black History Month |
| Not Applicable |
| BP/AR 5145.3, Nondiscrimination/Harassment |
| Each year, the month of February is proclaimed Black History Month to raise awareness and honor the contributions and accomplishments that African Americans have made to our history and culture. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) was founded in 1915 by Carter G. Woodson who labored under the belief that historical truth would crush falsehoods and usher in a new era of equality, opportunity, and racial democracy, and it has been the association?s charge for a century. ASALH has selected this year?s theme, ?A Century of Black Life, History, and Culture,? in honor of this milestone.
We have encouraged all school sites to prepare and present activities describing the countless ways African Americans have contributed to our nation and our society. Teacher-developed materials, activities, and professionally prepared materials are used with our K-12 students throughout the year with special emphasis during Black History Month. |

| California Education Code Section 35186 |
The regulations of the Williams lawsuit settlement require school districts to complete ?Quarterly Complaint? reports that document the number of complaints for textbooks and instructional materials, teacher vacancies and misassignments, and facilities conditions. Additionally, effective January 2008, as a result of settlement with the California State Department of Education, districts are required to implement the Valenzuela Settlement Legislation (Assembly Bill 347). This legislation requires that districts offer services for two consecutive years following grade twelve to students who did not pass the CAHSEE by the end of their 12th grade. Additionally, the legislation requires that students and families have the opportunity to file a complaint against the District for not fulfilling this requirement. Notification regarding the complaint process is integrated into the Williams Complaint form which is posted in every secondary classroom as required. For the period October-December 2014, the District did not have any complaints. |

Trustee Prola attended an Economic Study project in Ms. Ruby Smart's class at the high school, where Trustee Rosato and she were judges. Students were studying international economics and chose Germany as their focus. Students were paired up and each group researched a German Company and then provided a presentation. She was also invited to judge the City's Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech Contest, noting that only a few of the contestants were from the public schools. She attended the AT&T Store and Peet's Coffee grand openings at the Village Market Place in downtown San Leandro, noting that AT&T is already partnering with SLED to help the schools. Trustee Prola asked that Board members let her know if they are planning on attending any of the three upcoming LCAP Community Engagement Meetings.
