| Breathe California of the Bay Area fights lung disease in all its forms and works with its communities to promote lung health. Asthma has been known as the leading cause of chronic illnesses in children and Breathe California of the Bay Area aim to reduce the burden of asthma in the community. If left unchecked, asthma can lead to frequent hospital visits, greater school absenteeism, and low self-esteem and confidence. A strong desire to fit in with their peers also leads many children to ignore simple ways to manage their disease. To combat this, Breathe California of the Bay Area offers school Asthma Education Classes for individuals affected by the disease. By entering in this MOU, and offering a school-based asthma education program, children develop a better understanding of asthma. As a result, children often benefit from: - Better academic performance in the classroom
- Decline in school absenteeism
- Become more attentive to their asthmatic needs
- Increase self-esteem and self-confidence
This MOU is a partnership between Breathe California of the Bay Area and San Leandro Unified School District to provide asthma education programs for our schools.

The Second Interim must be presented to the Board of Education by March 15 each year. The Second Interim report provides information regarding the current year budget. The district is projected to close the current year's books with 3.13% unrestricted reserves (slightly above the 3% minimum as required by law). The Second Interim also includes a multi-year projection for this year and the next two budget years. Because of lowered revenue forecasts and increasing pension costs, the district must make $3.5 million in reductions and adjustments to maintain its 3% reserves.

Our district adopted by-laws for the operation of the CBOC at the January 24 Governing Board meeting. The by-laws call for the following membership: Parent (1), Parent Organization (1), Business Organization (1), At-Large (2), Tax Organization (1), Senior Organization (1). The Facilities and Technology committee reviewed applications and is forwarding the following list to the Governing Board for consideration.
