Co Principals Dr. Reginald Richardson and Dr. Ronald Richardson, elaborated on highlights at the high school using the strategic plan.
Before they began to review their six goals they honored the teachers and classified staff for a great start of the new school year.
-They focused on goals 1 and 2 of the strategic: Goal 1, Teach, Learn and Achieve; and Goal 2 - Equity and Inclusion through College and Career Readiness of the strategic plan - and highlighted 6 areas for the high school:
- block scheduling - off to a great start, students are intentional about creating a platform for students to deeply engage into project based learning. After school students have an opportunity to have face-to-face time with their teachers to further personalize their learning.
- College & Career Seminar Classes are off to an amazing start. Teachers are excited about teaching the curriculum. This course is for all incoming 9th graders for a semester. It provides students an introduction to career pathways to begin exploring options for what they want to do in the future and how to get there.
- College Night - Both principals thanked Trustee Gonzalez for attending. 60 colleges were present and approximately 700 students attended. Students were able to attend breakout sessions to learn more about any particular college and the options available.
- 200 students will be meeting with their counselors to have that personalized learning for college applications, etc.
-PSAT for free - all sophomores are able to take the PSAT for free. SAT tests will be in held in the Spring, at the high school during the school day, for free for all juniors.
-Focus on the whole student; all students are in different situations, having different backgrounds and challenges in their households. This may cause some of our students to be credit deficient. We've changed the stigma around Lincoln for credit recovery. It is an option for students, not only to recover their credit but to acknowledge that some students do better in a smaller setting. Students can recover their credit and have the choice to come back to the high school to continue their education; some choose to say at Lincoln to complete their education. They are focused on a full service credit recovery system and a collaborative relationship with Lincoln.
-College and career center is a revolving door. All students have full access to their counselors. By November, all students will have had face-to-face time with the counselor.
-Dr. Richardson and Dr. Richardson thanked the Board and Cabinet for supporting the high school with their new broadcasting studio. They school has Twitter and Youtube links around students really controlling the area around updates of what is going on at the high school. It enables students to work on their communication skills and can access this through a pathway as well. All students have the opportunity to provide student updates on what is happening at the high school.
-Beautification Day - The administration connected with the community with the goal of improving the conditions of their school site to create a cleaner and safer environment. It was great to connect with not only current students and families but former students and families also contributed their time to this annual event.
- Dr. Richardson and Dr. Richardson are celebrating the awesome marching band at the high school. They invited the Board and Cabinet to their homecoming game on October 20 to see watch them perform. It plays a huge role in the positive culture of the high school. |

| Sonal Patel, Senior Director of Educational Services |
A Graduate Profile is a document that a school district uses to specify the cognitive, personal, and interpersonal competencies that students should have when they graduate. A Graduate Profile defines what all students should be able to do in order to demonstrate that they are ready for success after high school. Sonal Patel, Senior Director of Educational Services, will present "Building a Graduate Profile."
|
| |
Sonal Patel, Senior Director of Educational Services, provided an overview of building a graduate profile.
She began by stating a graduate profile is a comprehensive set of comprehensive disciplinary student learning outcomes. It tells a story of what we think students need to know upon graduating high school in preparation for post-secondary education and for the 21st century workplace.
A graduate profile is important because it can help students, teachers, staff, the community and trustees provide instruction, the resources around that instruction, work based learning experiences and authentic assessments. Also understand the process of how this will lead students to develop and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school.
Ms. Patel provided a sample graduate profile from Pasadena Unified School District. It covered the following topics:
- Critical thinker - Critical and innovative thinker - Communicator - Collaborator - Prepared for college and career - External & internal values; culturally competent citizen - Healthy Mind and Body
Why do we need a graduate profile in our school district? We believe it would be helpful for us to build a common expectation and make concrete the kinds of academic learning and work-based experiences that we provide to all students. The school district is growing. Therefore we believe it would help for us to be able to articulate to the community our goals for students within the district.
To build a graduate profile, we want to engage all stakeholders around what readiness for college, career and life means. The profile would also enable stakeholders to understand how students will demonstrate levels of proficiency and how we will assess them.
There are eight guidelines that school districts have used to build a profile:
1. View the graduate profile as a process and a products. 2. Be visionary and comprehensive in identifying outcomes. 3. Be inclusive. Involve a broad representation of stockholders whose input will be included. 4. Be student-centered. Use language that students can understand. 5. Be patient. Engagement and buy-in takes a lot of time when many voices are at the table. 6. Be aligned. Align the graduate profile to language of pathway student outcomes, The CCSS, and to locally developed indicators of accountability. 7. Be accountable Use the graduate profile not only to define what students should strive to achieve by graduation, but also to articulate the educational opportunities that districts must provide. 8. Don't reinvent the wheel. Form networks, share success strategies, exchange ideas and learn from each other.
We are hopeful about a partnership with ConnectEd. This company works with many districts throughout the state to help build a graduate. We've place a contract on this agenda with ConnectEd. They would provide two things. First, develop the district graduate profile for college and career and civic readiness; the second is to draft a plan and implement the graduate profile.

| |
Jason Strickland, Athletic Director for the school district, provided a presentation and discussed the following:
Title IX Athletic Compliance - equity - last year needed to focus on area of equity in the female/male participation. 3 prong test for title ix - only need to meet one - our distirct meets all three.
Have added several teams to the athletic department:

Jason stated that they've met all criteria to be title ix compliant. He's also noticed an increase in female participation in sports now compared to the last three years.
Enrollment in Athletics: 2015-16 we were at 403 for Fall 2016-17 increased to 424 2017-18 increased to 482
People are excited about athletics and no one is excluded.
- Coaching Education Professional Development: Mr. Strickland worked closely with Dr. Thompson to ensure coaches were clear to work in our school district.

MS coaches, required to have cpr, first aid, concussion and cardiac arrest and keenan online training.
Mr. Strickland and the administration set up set program for positive coaching which are Mandatory workshops for all high school coaches for fall, winter and spring seasons. This will be a 2 hour presentation to recap how to speak to the students, how to motivate and inspire and empower the students. Will also bring the presentation to the students in the future.
Students, Students, Students - community engagement - J1, students want to be apart of the bond measures. Ice cream with cops - it's; beautification day involvement. 80% of band plays sports. Not just athletics - they're helping out everywhere.
Student safety - importance of training and protocols around concussions has improved. The trainer has come to games and to address coaches and athletes. The football teams have had to have online baseline concussion training pertaining. The few that have had concussions have to go through a protocol and be cleared from a doctor, our trainer and then another test before participating in sports.
Hazing, social media and bullying - all hot topics - for social media students have to read a document which students are encourages them to be responsible on social media. Hazing and bullying are not acceptable. It may be tradition in college but the high school is making parents, coaches and students aware of acceptable behavior. 1st year started the captains club which -all team captains meet a few times a year with the coaches. They discuss empowerment and inspiration on how to address situations on the field in a professional way.
Bancroft, Muir and Lincoln Athletics - There is now accountability at the middle school sites. communicating with the parents on sports activities has improved; and flyers and mailers to parents are aware of what's going on. Parent meetings are now required for middle school sports involvement. Safety and first aid kits provided at the middle schools. Soft helmets for flag football teams to prevent concussions - which has not been mandated in the the league.
Physicals for all - a board policy that is being implemented at the middle school.
Lincoln - adding basketball and soccer and will play in leagues with other contnuation school. Employees will be coaching and the athletic department is working on funding to continue with this endeavor.

Since 2012 the District implemented the use of Certica Solutions in order to ensure our CALPADS data is accurate and complete as well as meet our compliance deadlines. It was found to be an essential process in ensuring school site and department CALPADS data is entered correctly and on time. Both site office staff have come to rely on daily reminders to update information and we have become much more efficient and accurate correcting CALPADS errors. For 2014-2015 school year, the District is again seeking to renew the contract agreement with Certica Solutions for Certify, which is Certica's hosted data certification service. They have a proven track record to support districts like ours to organize an easier electronic process validating and monitoring our data daily. It provides performance management to help districts analyze, track and improve CALPADS reporting and ensure compliance.

To purchase color-changing LED lighting instruments and necessary cables and mounting equipment for stage lighting at the Arts Education Center. The plan is to replace down-lighting instruments and cyc-lighting instruments with color-changing LED instruments. Currently used instruments would become available for use in other areas of the light plot or to become part of the lighting system in the black box theater. The theater manager would be responsible for installing and moving theater lighting. Impact of Project: - The primary benefit of these LED lighting instruments is on-the-fly color changing which would allow for more intricate lighting design for shows in the theater.
- The new lighting design would reduce power consumption by 85% - 90%.
- The new lighting would produce significantly less heat which would then require less air conditioning.
- Less heat output from the lights. Since this project would only replace a portion of the total lighting instruments in use, the overall reduction in power consumption and heat output would be noticeable, but not dramatic.
