| Linda Granger, Superintendent, ROP & Joanne Clark |
Linda Granger, Eden Area ROP Superintendent, Joanne Clark, Director of Prevention and Intervention and staff will present on Career Pathway programs in San Leandro Unified School District. |
| |
Joanne Clark, Director of Prevention and Intervention began her presentation by introducing her team; Linda Granger, Superintendent from Eden Area ROP, Lisa Jackson, Program Coordinator for Career Pathways, Jennifer and Cesar Diaz, Aritza Brown, students at SLHS and Michelle Tolention.
Ms. Clark announced that a career takes three things; vision, skill and education, as well as partnerships with Eden Area ROP, the Board and their community with Career Pathways. Without partnerships they would not have the success that they have today. Linda Granger announced that at the joint San Leandro and San Lorenzo city school board meeting last year the focus was on CTE. ROP is a delivery model for career technical education and everything they do is a partnership to support CTE.
Joanne Clark stated that San Leandro Unified School District has a robust menu of Career Education Pathways and some of their Career Technical Pathways courses are:
* Marketing & Entrepreneurship * Automotive Technology * Wood Technology * Advanced Manufacturing * Design, Visual and Media Arts
Academies and Pathways courses available are:
* Biomedical Health * Academy of Business and Finance * SLAM (Multimedia) * SJA (Social Justice Academy) * Computer Science Pathways * World Language Pathways * Art Pathways
Lisa Jackson, Program Coordinator for Career Pathways, talked about her role to support the second goal which is to ensure college and career readiness for students and San Leandro offers the following:
* Sequence of two career technical courses * Early college credit through dual enrollment * Work based learning and internships * Student leadership * Counseling support * Certifications Ms. Granger announced that also being offered to students in terms of their Career Technical Education is the opportunity for juniors and seniors to take programs at the ROP Center in Hayward. Being offered is the following:
* Partnership with four school districts * Serve approximately 4,800 students * 20 programs at high school sites * 13 programs at the ROP Center
Classes being offered at the ROP center to juniors and seniors are the following:
* Computer Graphics * Construction Technology * Welding * Careers in Education * Cyber Security * Dental Assisting * Medical Careers * Culinary * Merchandising * Criminal Justice * First Responder * Automotive Refinishing * Automotive Technology
Through their partnership they have the following ongoing systems of support and work together:
* Coordinating Council * Work Based Learning * Counselors * Advisory Committee * Dream Team (4 Districts) * Case Managers * Professional Development * CTE Teachers * Articulations for Early College Credit
Joanne Clark talked about the following specific highlights:
* College and Career Seminar Course * All 9th graders take this course * "G" approved course * Dual enrollment course * 10 year plan developed
* Early College Credit which they call Dual Enrollment * 187 students in 2017-2018 * 512 students currently enrolled 2018-2019
Jennifer and Cesar Diaz spoke about their experiences with the HEAL (Health Education Academic Leadership) Internship. They are also enrolled in the Automotive Technology course which is a dual enrollment course. They receive dual credit for both high school and Chabot College. As part of their internship they are also enrolled in biomedical courses. Jennifer is enrolled in Sports Medicine and Cesar is enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology. Being part of these internships they were able to apply what they learned to what they are seeing in their fields.
Aritza Brown is a junior at San Leandro High School and also attends ROP. She is currently enrolled in a medical career class. She took this class because she believes it will be beneficial in preparing her for her career. She spoke about the influence her grandmother has had on her and how her grandmother needs assistance at home and how she is able to help her. Aritza also spoke about her family all being in the health profession. Her class at ROP has given her a strong foundation for her future. She is also part of FACES for the Future program which has given her real life experiences at hospitals.
Michelle Tolentino stated that she was representing herself and San Leandro Academy for Multimedia (SLAM). She spoke about her younger years making videos and how she now wants a career in the film and broadcasting industry. As a sophomore in high school she joined SLAM and it was the best decision she made. She talked about her teachers and her experiences at school and the academy. She stated that the best thing that she learned from her teachers was to be passionate about what you do and it can take you far in life. She wants to go into mass communication to become the districts next news anchor. From her sophomore year to her senior year she has created a lot of memories, met the most interesting people, learned a lot about life lessons but mostly she has established a family at school. Michelle personally thanked her friends, the SLAM teachers, administrators, staff, Evelyn Gonzalez and Linda Granger for believing in her and their support throughout her SLAM and broadcasting journey.
Linda Granger spoke about applying for grants and announced that they had been awarded the following grants:
* Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant was awarded to Eden Area and will provide funds for summer internships for students. * CTE Incentive grant from the State was awarded for 1.474 million and will go to the four districts based on their ADA.
She also applied for the Strong Workforce grant application for 3.4 million. Hopefully by the end of the month she will receive notification of this award.
Joanne Clark stated they still have a lot of work to do and presented the "Next Steps". They will continue to support programs at San Leandro Unified School District. |

The SLUSD Director of Food and Nutrition Services would like to implement a student worker program where SLHS students would have the opportunity to work in the cafeteria during food service times to gain employment experience and to assist the Food and Nutrition Services Department during these high service times. To do this, the SLUSD Board of Education will need to establish the hourly rate of pay for student workers. It is recommended that the board approve an hourly rate of $15, which is consistent with the City of San Leandro's minimum wage. Approval of the revised Substitute, Short Term, and Unrepresented Employee Salary Schedule will set the student worker rate at $15 per hour and enable the Food and Nutrition Services Department begin this program. District staff has met and conferred with the California School Employees' Association (CSEA - which represents workers in this department) and CSEA supports this proposal.

HANDLE [Holistic Approach to Neuro-Development and Learning Efficiency] is a Mental Health Services Act Innovation grant proposal with Alameda County Behavioral Health Services. HANDLE integrates a neurodevelopmental approach into mental health services to achieve better outcomes through a practice based on brain research on neuroplasticity and the effect of stress responses on learning, mood and behavior. HANDLE intervention includes an initial assessment to determine inefficiencies in the communication between the body and the brain leading to functional difficulties. Based on the assessment a treatment plan is developed that specifies HANDLE interventions to address the neurodevelopmental weaknesses. HANDLE improves brain function, which reduces or eliminates the underlying neurodevelopmental problems contributing to emotional and behavioral symptoms. This letter of agreement outlines the partnership between San Leandro Unified School District and Alameda County Behavioral Health Services. |

JLC Final GMP - Garfield & Wilson Modulars
|
|
|
Attached is pre-construction and design services from JLC for modular scope of work, in lieu of Gross Maximum Price (GMP) originally submitted. The final reduced GMP will be determined after Pre-construction services have been completed. This work will result in a cost savings of approximately $450,000 over the proposed GMP of $18,585,516 by conforming the building design to the same standards as were approved for the Garfield and Wilson Modular projects. We anticipate that the revised GMP will be submitted for approval by the next Board meeting and will not require adjusting the current schedule. See Exhibit C 1-4, Section 1(Preliminary Services Payments) of the Lease-Lease Back contract (Agreement).
