| Michael Cubacub, Ed.D. |
Michael Cubacub, Director of Technology, Assessment, Research and Evaluation, will present our results on the California State Dashboard. The presentation will include performance on the six State Indicators (Chronic Absenteeism, Suspension Rate, English Learner Progress, Math and ELA, College and Career, and Graduation). Results on the California State Dashboard and other student data may be accessed on our 2019-2020 Dashboard located under the Community Tab of our website.
|
| |
Dr. Sonal Patel, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, provided a presentation on the California Dashboard 2020.
Dr. Patel reminded the board and audience members that Last November a presentation was provided on local indicators so this presentation will focus on the state indicators: College and Career Graduation Rate Academics-English Language Arts (ELA) & Math English Learner Progress Chronic Absenteeism Suspension Rate
The California School Dashboard has 3 areas: Academic Performance Academic Engagement Conditions and Climate
California wants to make sure that students and families and school leaders are informed not only about the academic progress of students but how students are engaged in academics and the conditions and climate that we create in order to sustain this engagement and performance.
The displayed indicators sorted in the three categories. All information can be found online and on our school district website.
Results for our school district reflected growth in a lot of areas. College and career readiness indicator was in the green. Growth was also reflected in English/language arts and math.
Our graduation rate alongside other districts in the area has taken a dip with the matrix in terms of how they calculate the graduation rate.
We have improvements to make in chronic absenteeism and our suspension rate has been holding steady.
Until we have more than two years of data from the English language proficiency tests we will not see a color indicator on the dashboard for English learner progress. Instead we'll receive comments.
In order to see the growth, it is important for us to look at the data for over 2 years. Dr. Patel displayed a chart reflecting a colorful display of results for 2018 and 2019. Based on the display we're starting to make improvements from 2018 to 2019.
A summary of data reflected by school sites was shown, indicating improvements at some school sites. Big gains were shown in ELA and math.
Highlights from the 2019 California Dashboard include -10 out of 12 of SLUSD Schools No Red in any indicators for all the students groups. -No schools in Red for Academic Performance and Academic Engagement. -Students with Disabilities, Homeless, and African American are no longer Red in Academics -All students improve one color performance in ELA (Yellow), Math (Yellow) and CCI (Green) -5 Elementary Schools Blue in Suspension Rate for all students.
Differentiated Assistance: -SLUSD exited Differentiated Assistance for Homeless and Students with Disabilities -SLUSD Entered Differentiated Assistance for our Foster Youth --Chronic Absenteeism and Suspension
Dr. Patel showed Board and audience members how to directly access this information from our website by clicking on the "Community" tab and select and click the "Data Dashboard 2019-2020".

Our district entered into a contract with Public Economics, Incorporated (PEI) to review our current Redevelopment Agency (RDA) agreements and draft a resolution that allows for greater flexibility in use of RDA funds. PEI has completed this work and has provided the following documents: - Exhibit A - List of current project areas and details
- Summary Report - Background regarding redevelopment areas and rationale for the resolution
- Resolution 20-04 - Resolution to clarify use of redevelopment agency pass-through payments
The resolution helps to clarify issues that arose following the dissolution of RDA's in 2012. Our district originally contracted with PEI in 2012. However, it appears that the resolution was not presented to the Board for consideration. The current resolution ratifies past compliance including geographic usage restrictions, and allows for further flexibility in use of these facility funds.

Public Economics, Inc. (PEI) completed the tasks of identifying current Redevelopment Project Areas and preparing a resolution to clarify how those funds can be spent within the district. District staff is recommending that we enter into a contract with PEI to review all past RDA payments since 2012 and project future RDA payments (up to 19 years). If PEI determines that the district was not paid its full past amounts, it would negotiate on the district's behalf to ensure full compliance. Projections of future payments will allow the district to more accurately budget and schedule facilities work. RDA funds can be used for this project. |

The intent of this Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between San Leandro Unified School District (SLUSD) and the Sequoia Foundation (SF) is to describe the roles in the completion of deliverables for a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). The grant provides students in middle and high school the opportunity to learn about environmental justice through lessons on air quality and toxic substances found in homes and waterways. The grant enhances learning by creating hands-on experiences that support and build on California’s Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Students will collect and analyze local air quality data, compare with publicly-available Air District data, assess human environmental impacts, and learn about sources of pollution and associated health effects. The curriculum will follow a project-based learning (PBL) approach and this agreement builds upon the work completed last year.

Quote for SLHS Booths
|
|
|
There are four (4) elevators within the District. They are located at FTK, SLHS (2-one in the Science Wing and one across from the Principal's Office), and Bancroft Middle School. 1. Dream Ride Elevator will be installing key lock-outs on all four (4) elevators. This is to provide positive control (especially during emergencies) over elevators and to prevent those not authorized from using them. Part of the key lock-out systems includes electronic circuitry modifications to each elevator to ensure they work properly.
2. Dream Ride Elevator is going to install wiring in all four (4) elevators to accommodate a camera (that we already purchased) for each elevator. They will install the wiring and stub it out for camera connection. Dream Ride Elevator will not be installing the camera. They are only running the wiring and stubbing it out. Walker Telecom* (the vendor we have used for all of our camera installations will need to be called out to install the cameras. Camera installation is not part of this quote.
3. Dream Ride Elevator will also be changing out the lighting system in the Science Wing Elevator at SLHS. The lighting in this elevator is very poor and poses a safety hazard. This includes the upgrade of lighting, fabrication of a new ceiling panel and installation.
The total cost for this project is $37,800.
In the quote, Dream Ride Elevator lists optional ceiling lighting system replacements at $15,600 per elevator. The elevator at SLHS, across from the Principal's Office is in need of replacement as well.
With the addition of replacing the ceiling lighting in the second elevator, the total cost of the project is now $37,800 + $15,600 = $53,400.
The elevator at FTK is new and does not need a lighting upgrade. The elevator at Bancroft could use a lighting upgrade but it is optional. If we decide to add the lighting upgrade for Bancroft, the new total cost would be $69,000. This cost does not include applicable taxes.
*Not included in this quote will be the cost for Walker Telecom to install the cameras. Walker cannot do any work in the elevator shaft. This is why Dream Ride has to complete the wiring portion. The average cost for Walker Telecom to install a camera is approximately $1,000 per camera run. So we are looking at an additional $4,000 for the actual installation of the cameras.

The regulations of the Williams lawsuit settlement require school districts to complete “Quarterly Complaint” reports that document the number of complaints for textbooks and instructional materials, teacher vacancies and mis-assignments, and facilities conditions. Additionally, effective January 2008, as a result of settlement with the California State Department of Education, districts are required to implement the Valenzuela Settlement Legislation (Assembly Bill 347). Notification regarding the complaint process is integrated into the Williams Complaint form which is posted in every secondary classroom as required. For the period of October-December, 2019, the school district did not have any complaints.
