In order to continue to attract and retain teachers for the district's Adult Education program, Principal Bradley Frazier has been reviewing options with district staff to provide for a raise. The most recent Adult Education pay increase occurred in 2018. The current proposal is to increase the beginning teacher salary (Years 1-3) from $38.85 to $41.00 and to update the longevity amount to reflect a 5% salary increase for each additional step (Years 4-6, Years 7-9, and Years 10+). Current longevity steps range from $0.60 (1.5%) to $1.00 (2.5%). Updating those steps to 5% each will provide an additional incentive for teachers to continue to work for San Leandro Adult Education. The new salaries would go into effect with the new timesheet period on March 11, 2022. Under the new proposal, the fringe and stipend structure remains unchanged. The total cost of the salary increase would be charged to Adult Education (Fund 11) and would not impact the general fund. The cost of the increase is calculated at just under $100,000 per year, or about $40,000 for the remainder of the current fiscal year.

The category of "Substitute, Short Term and Unrepresented Employees" includes Home Instruction Teachers (Home/Hospital), Psychologist Interns, Substitute Teachers, Community Service Attendants, Playground Supervisors, Custodial and Trades Substitutes, Translators, Student Workers, and Management Substitutes. District staff is recommending increasing the salary of Home Instruction Teachers to match the Adult Education teacher salary, as has been district practice. The increase will assist staff in continuing to assign qualified teachers to work with students who are not able to attend school due to a medical condition. The salaries for Community Service Attendants, Playground Supervisors, Teamster/Trades Substitutes, and CSEA substitutes are all "indexed" to Step 1 of the indicated ranges of either the CSEA or Teamster/Trades salary schedule. With a 5.19% increase to both the CSEA and Teamster/Trades salary schedules, these salaries will also increase. District staff is recommending that the salary increases for these indexed increased be effective on March 11, 2022 to coincide with the new timesheet period. There are no current changes to salaries of Psychologist Interns, Substitute Teachers, Translators or Student Workers.

In order to continue supporting modern learning, maintaining high speed internet access to each school site is required. San Leandro Unified receives many core network services from the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE). This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) extends our current 10 Gbps internet and firewall services through the 2022-2023 school year. Roughly 80% of this cost is covered by the federal E-Rate program. After these and other discounts the expected annual cost to the district is $24,190.00 which is a reduction compared to previous years. This item was reviewed by the Facilities and Technology Committee at the March 2nd Meeting. |

The Elevate Math and CSI programs will be offered to support SLUSD's summer 2022 learning program. The Elevate [Math] program is designed for incoming 3rd–10th grade students whose test scores (as measured by Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC or other objective measures) indicate they are nearly meeting their grade-level standards. The Programs front load supplemental accelerated instruction in math readiness, so that students are able to successfully complete their next level math course. The CSI program provides learning opportunities to students who are furthest away from opportunities by introducing the foundations of computer science through the lens of making and design thinking to promote the continued pursuit of CS. CSI is designed for rising 7th-8th grade students and the program will be piloting the 9-10th grade curriculum in summer 2022. |
