2026 California School Dashboard Shows Academic Gains and Continued Areas for Improvement in San Leandro Unified
District gains in English and math outpace statewide improvement, while graduation rate rises to 92.8%
San Leandro, CA—Students in San Leandro Unified School District (SLUSD) demonstrated gains in English language arts and mathematics, according to the newly released 2026 California School Dashboard. While SLUSD students continue to perform below statewide levels in both subjects, the district is making faster progress than the state overall. English language arts performance improved by 5.1 points, compared to a statewide increase of 0.6 points, while mathematics performance improved by 8.1 points, compared to 3.5 points statewide.
“Improvement is an important indicator that our efforts are moving in the right direction, but growth alone is not the measure of our success,” said SLUSD Acting Superintendent Dr. Sonal Patel. “We have to consider how many students are meeting academic expectations, which students are experiencing that progress, and where disparities remain. The Dashboard gives us an opportunity to examine those questions carefully and use what we learn to support the work happening daily on the ground that drives improvement.”
This year’s Dashboard also reflects improvement in other important measures of student success. SLUSD's graduation rate increased to 92.8%, exceeding the statewide rate of 88.1%, while college and career readiness improved to 52.2%. The district also saw reductions in suspensions and chronic absenteeism, with the suspension rate declining to 2.8% and chronic absenteeism among TK–8 students falling to 18.4%. While these reductions are encouraging, improving consistent school attendance remains a district priority.
The California School Dashboard provides an annual overview of school and district performance, offering families, educators, and communities a way to understand student outcomes and track progress over time. Districtwide and individual school results are available at www.caschooldashboard.org.
