    Minutes
The 2015-16 Discipline Task Force Presentation was presented after the Excellence in Education Award Presentation. Dr. Rosanna Mucetti and Victoria Forrester presented to the Board a review on the Discipline Task Force. Dr. Mucetti began the presentation and explained why there was a discipline task force in place and what brought us here during the 2015-16 school year. There is always improvement that can be made and it was noted that there was variances as to how disciple was handled at the sites by our administrators. When there is variances this can cause confusion. After discussion with the Teacher's Association it was determined that this was a very important topic that was going to required a great deal of collaboration and discussion, in order to understand the problem clearly. Dr. Mucetti stated that there are some operational issues that need to be addressed and training that needs to take place with administrators to respond appropriately. She thanked the San Leandro Teachers' Association, the teachers on the task force and stated that this has been a great learning experience for management to understand the depth of the problem. Dr. Mucetti also commented that when teachers and management come together around something like this it impacts teaching and learning every day in the classroom. Management is deeply committed to designing, refining and launching and implementing this in the fall. Victoria Forrester also spoke regarding the disciple task force. It was comprised of seven teachers, five administrators, Dr. Mucetti and herself. Administrators and teachers met to collaborate over a problem that everyone could see and it was very inspiring doing this work. They wanted to make sure that everyone understood the structure of (PBIS) Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. It was a structure for behavior and it was part of discipline but not a structure for discipline. They wanted to identify gaps within the system when responding to discipline issues and wanted to gather discipline data, identify causes and the challenges that the District was having. This project started in March and was completed by the end of the school year. The task force requested to meet in the fall to discuss the work that was rolled out during the summer and during the upcoming fall school year. A survey was given to all SLTA members and 277 responses were received from teachers from all three grade spans and all responses were read. Teachers have concerns regarding disciple procedures in the District and the data supported that. Administrators agreed with the teachers that there are disciple problems. The Educational Services department will continue working on protocols during the summer.
