E PUBLIC TESTIMONY
- Minutes
- Morgan Mack-Rose, President of San Leandro Education Foundation, spoke during public testimony. She attended this meeting to speak regarding the information received from a recent board meeting regarding increased enrollment in our school district. The increase is more than the demographers predicted in 2015. Morgan attended a meeting with RDA where the sale of a lot on the corner of Davis and East 14th Street was approved. While this will take several years to develop, she is aware of several housing developments in various areas of San Leandro that have been approved for development. These developments will impact our schools. While prioritizing how the bond money is spent, we need to realize that schools are more than classrooms; they are science labs, restrooms, cafeterias, and libraries. All of this needs to be considered with the anticipated growth of San Leandro.

G BOARD DISCUSSION Passed
- Minutes
- All Board Trustees participated in discussion and inserted questions and concerns regarding Measure J1 projects. Mr. Kerrigan provided a handout to all Board Trustees and directed them to cross out projects that they don't believe need to be done right now and number the projects that need to be done now. Discussion included the following comments from Board Trustees: - HVAC is definitely necessary - Modular portable replacements - taking care of elementary schools first that have the greatest need Prior to ending the discussion Mr. Kerrigan recapped the following priorities based on input from Board Trustees and the Superintendent: --- ---high school library renovations not a priority ---comprise a list of prioritize portables by sites with the greatest need for replacement; once the board trustees review this list, they can make a more informed decision of what order school sites obtain portable replacement and architect can be contacted for drawings and contracts. Begin with elementary sites ---provide a list of top 5 school sites needing roof replacement/repair ---pool deck repair ---will provide a top 5 of list will bring to the next F&T meeting ---madison - Based on choices, replace the modulars, portables, refurbish existing classrooms within the old annex or refurbish existing classes and add additional spaces. The trustees agreed with refurbishing existing classes and add additional spaces - electrical upgrades are necessary - progression of schools - replacing portables with modulars - elementary library renovations are fine; the high school library renovation is not a priority based on the cost, it was upgraded approximately 8 years ago. what is the cost of the required signage? Largest cost would be with digital signage. Will be discussed at a later date. Signs on a building costs minimal. Signs on a pole are costly. -determine how many portables are critical in the school district? which ones are housing full classrooms that need to be replaced - Number of portables in the school district, how many are critical; rank portable replacement by sites; which portables or currently being leased - pool deck needs to be a priority; will be assessed next month to determine how to repair - budget in phases; high importance by site based on condition and usage; reassess as we go along - prefer to have projects to consider escalation factor Mr. Kerrigan will send the Trustees the top 5 sites - Muir landscaping needs to be considered - currently mud and dirt in between buildings. - exterior painting - prioritize by the condition of school sites - signage - signs on a building are less expensive than signs on a portable; digital signs will cost more - cautious of setting priorities - pool deck needs to be repaired - cannot afford to postpone repairs needed - drop off areas at some of the schools impact major street arteries - this needs to be a priority roofing projects - Mr. Kerrigan will come back with top 5 that need to be repaired/replaced critical list of portables, roofing - need tangible list in order to make an informed decision; speak to architects now, which will not encumber our budget. trustees comfortable between meetings on having the superintendent moving forward based on these discussions next board meeting - bring addendums to master contracts based on tonights discussion
