San Leandro High School Senior Natalia Torres Garcia Begins Term as Student Board Representative
Natalia’s SLUSD journey began in preschool and now includes a seat on the Board of Education

San Leandro, CA—San Leandro High School senior Natalia Torres Garcia began her term as a student representative to the San Leandro Unified School District Board of Education at its September 15 meeting. She will serve throughout the 2026-27 school year, participating in Board discussions and bringing a student perspective to the Board’s work.
Natalia has been part of the SLUSD community since preschool, when she attended the preschool program at the San Leandro Adult Career and Education Center. She later attended Wilson Elementary (now Halkin Elementary), John Muir Middle School, and San Leandro High School. At SLHS, she serves as vice president of the Associated Student Body, participates in cheer, and is working toward earning the California State Seal of Biliteracy.
Student leadership has given Natalia a closer look at how school decisions affect students and sparked her interest in how those decisions are made. “I’m excited to learn how the district works behind the scenes,” Natalia said. “I’m looking forward to representing students and better understanding the decisions that affect our schools.”
After graduation, Natalia hopes to attend UC Berkeley and pursue a career in law, with an interest in international law and human rights. Outside of school, she enjoys hiking, cooking pasta, vintage shopping, and spending time with her French bulldog, Dante.
