2026 National Recognition Program honorees
San Leandro, CA—San Leandro Unified School District is proud to celebrate San Leandro High School students who have earned national recognition for their academic achievement through the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program and the 2026 College Board National Recognition Program.
San Leandro High School senior Allen Au has been named a Semifinalist in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists represent less than 1% of high school seniors nationwide and have the opportunity to continue competing for National Merit Scholarships.
SLHS students Lydia B. Meyer, Khang Nguyen, and Leonardo De La Cruz Rodriguez were also recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program as Commended Students for their outstanding academic promise.
“We are incredibly proud of these students and all they have accomplished,” said San Leandro High School Principal Maite Barloga. “They have challenged themselves academically and worked hard for these honors. We are excited to celebrate their accomplishments and to see where their talents take them next!”
In addition, 34 San Leandro High School students earned academic honors through the 2026 College Board National Recognition Program. More than 300,000 students nationwide received recognition through the program this year.
The honors come as San Leandro High School continues to see strong growth in Advanced Placement participation. Since 2023, the number of students taking AP courses has grown from 381 to 642, an increase of more than 68 percent. During that time, the percentage of students earning a score of 3 or higher on AP exams has increased from 64 percent to 72 percent. SLHS currently offers 22 AP courses.
