Halkin Family Newsletter #12

Weekly News and Updates - October 26-30, 2026

Dear Halkin Families,

October is almost over but there are still so many things to do and celebrate:

October 27: Cookie Dough Delivery

Come by the cafeteria between 12pm and 6pm to pick up your orders. We do not have freezers to store items, it is very important that you pick up on this day!

October 28, 2:00pm: Reclassification Ceremony

We will be recognizing all the students who passed the ELPAC test at the end of last school year. They have worked hard to be reclassified from being an English Learner to Fluent English Proficient. We are so proud of them!

October 30-Halloween Parades & Event Schedule

  • 8:25 am: TK and Kindergarten (Primary Yard)
  • 1:15 pm: Grades 1–5 (Intermediate Yard)
  • 5:00 pm: Trunk-or-Treat Celebration (Intermediate Yard)

Please be sure to follow these Halloween & Costume Guidelines:

  1. Safety First: Have fun and stay safe!
  2. Allergies: If your child's class is having a celebration with food, please keep food allergies in mind.
  3. Classroom Snacks: Ask your child's teacher for guidance on what treats or items are allowed.
  4. Costume Restrictions: Masks and weapon accessories are not permitted, even if they are part of the costume set.
  5. Age-Appropriate Attire: Be mindful of our younger students—please avoid scary costumes, blood, or frightening accessories.
  6. Independence: Ensure your child can easily put on and take off their costume independently, especially for bathroom breaks.

Attendance Guidance

What to do if your student is absent:

Call the office to clear their absence: (510) 618-4370.

-If you do not clear within 48hrs their absence will be unexcused.

-Any time a student goes to the doctor, please make sure to bring a doctor's note to the office.

-A doctor’s note is also required for medical/dental appointments for early pick up to be excused.

-A doctor's note is required after the 3rd day of absence, otherwise it will be marked unexcused.

-If you are picking up your child early, please be ready to show your ID.

-Make sure that the person picking up your child is on the emergency contact list.

When calling the office, please do not leave multiple messages as we will get to them as soon as possible. We clear our messages each day and will fix the attendance in the order that calls/emails are received.

Avoid Receiving a Truancy Letter!

Attendance matters! Missing a day may not seem like much, but absences add up. Lets help our students succeed in school and avoid being truant.

Students are considered truant if they have:

  • 3 or more unexcused absences
  • 3 or more unexcused period absences in middle and high school
  • 3 or more unexcused tardies to school or class that exceed 30 mins
  • Or any combination of 3 unexcused absences and tardies

Communication is Key:

Make sure to notify the school if your student is out sick to excuse their absence. Contact us via phone call or parent square message within 48 hours to get their absence excused.

Main Office: 510-618-4370

Nut-free School!

In order to keep all our Dolphins safe and comfortable, we appreciate you providing nut-free snacks and meals for your children. Please also remind your students to not share food! Sharing is caring, except when it can cause an allergic reaction, upset stomachs, or upset parents if they eat something that their parent does not want them to eat.

Please have this very serious conversation with your students today: peanut free food and no sharing food!
